Personal Style Influences How People React To You
The late thirteenth century marks the time when the expression of wealth through dressing became a standard. Clothing started being recognized as a mean of social distinction and it became a powerful tool to build social relations and to negotiate commercial exchanges.
In this era, with internet and social media, image has become one of the most, if not the most powerful communication tool. The first impression we receive from people is based on an image we perceive even before they get a chance to open their mouths to speak.
Especially when it comes to business, clothing significantly influences how others respond to you. Research has found that candidates with a good personal style have had a better career than those not well dressed. Other scientific studies have proved that the way you dress can also affect your mental and psychological performance. Your wardrobe and your communication skills determine whether or not others will trust you and pay you a certain fee for your business, product or service. Like it or not, if you want to attract, inspire and grow your audience and wealth, communicating through a powerful image is extremely important. Having good style gives you credibility.
So what is style? And what does it mean to have it? Here is how I see it.
“STYLE IS AN OUTER REFLECTION OF YOUR INNER SELF”
– Coxy –
Style goes beyond image. It’s not only about the way you dress. It’s your consciousness of yourself. It’s about how you behave and the way you carry yourself through life. It shows values like dignity, wealth, health, and creativity. Style communicates in all languages. It has no boundaries of race, color, gender or religion. It determines the way you interact with the world around you and improves your relationships. Communicating through your style may be more effective than explaining with words who you are. With your style, you may show your feelings, your mood and even your personal beliefs. Your style will empower and give you confidence. Investing in your style is important, because it means investing in your persona.
STYLE SECRETS OF THE WEALTHY AND HEALTHY
Have you ever noticed that some of the most stylish people seem to exude elegance effortlessly? They always look comfortable, present and confident in every circumstance.
How do they create and express that sense of wealth and health?
Let me share with you some of their secrets.
Most wealthy people realize that more is achieved through failure than through success and they are humble enough to be willing to be vulnerable and share their unique story. They are authentic and inspire others just from being themselves. Creating your style starts from acknowledging and cherishing who you are and where you come from, because that is what makes you unique and defines you as a person. Being authentic means being truthful to your history, your passions, your feelings, your dreams, your desires, your successes as well as your emotions, your fears, your dramas, your dark side, your mistakes and your failures. It takes spirit and courage to express yourself and tell your story without caring about being judged or rejected.
Your most beautiful Love story is You.
Own your story, don’t let your story own you!
The moment you are connected to your true-self, your beauty will show up naturally and the world around you is going to be attracted and inspired by that.
#2 THE BLACK SHEEP
Are you the white sheep that follows blindly the trends that society imposes on you, or are you the black sheep that stands out from the masses? I’ve always loved black sheep, with their elegant little black dress they differentiate themselves from the rest of the flock. Being a black sheep is not easy, nor comfortable and sometimes it can feel lonely and challenging.
Wealthy people are never stereotyped. They usually look at what everybody else does and then do differently. They create trends instead of following them. They distance themselves from mediocrity and prefer to be considered different rather than “normal”. This way of thinking reflects in their wardrobe choices as well. They don’t follow fashion trends, they have their own style.
#3 MENS SANA IN CORPORE SANO
“Mens sana in Corpore sano” Latins would say, which means “Healthy mind in a healthy body”. In the western world, this phrase is widely used in sporting and educational contexts to express the theory that physical exercise is an important or essential part of mental and psychological well-being. (source: Wikipedia)
Some people take better care of their car than of their body. They make sure the maintenance is done on a regular basis so that it can last longer, but when it comes to their person, they throw junk food in their stomach and crappy clothes on their skin.
Your body is that amazing vehicle through which you have the ability to express yourself and move through this world. Making it beautiful will not only make you feel healthier, but it will also give people the sensation that you lead a balanced life. Your body is your temple. You are a spiritual being in a physical vehicle and if you don’t take care of it, it won’t take you very far. It is essential that you create time for yourself to eat well, meditate and exercise. These three things should be on your schedule every day. They are on the one of the wealthy and successful so why shouldn’t they be on yours?
I believe we are all Gods and Goddesses. Our role is to sculpt our body like a Masterpiece. Just like Michelangelo has sculpted his David.
#3 STYLE IS A RITUAL
Your style choices reflect on your relationships more than you can imagine. Some people think that dressing in the morning is only a matter of habit. They wake up, open their closet and put on the very first thing they find. If you happen to be one of the above mentioned people, I have a question for you: How do you expect others to love you, be attracted to you or admire you if you treat yourself in such a careless way?
Making conscious style choices means choosing to build a healthy relationship with your body, your soul and your environment. Creating a good style takes confidence, self awareness, creativity, and a little bit of work and time. Wealthy people dedicate time and research in their Look. They put together outfits that express who they are, and how they relate to the world.
I learned this lesson by modeling my mother and my grandmother, two powerful women blessed with incredible Style. They both were impeccable all the time. My mom would dress up and wear make-up even when she was staying at home. She had a whole set of slippers and tutus in different colors just for the house life and her wardrobe was huge. My grandmother had most of her dresses tailor made when she was younger. She said that every outfit should fit the body like a glove and allow you to sinuously move in it. They both believed that when you look good, you feel good. They taught me it’s not about fashion, it’s about love and respect for yourself.
#4 CITIZEN OF THE WORLD
Wealthy people are curious and have experienced first-hand many different cultures and environments. They have seen the beauty and the dark side of the world and they use what they learned to better themselves and to inspire others.
Traveling opens your mind and gives you awareness and wisdom. It opens your perception and helps you understand that there are no limits and boundaries in the world, unless you set those in your mind.
During my journeys I’ve experienced all kinds of environments: from staying in a 6 stars hotel to dining with Asian Princesses to sleeping in a hammock in the middle of the Amazon Forest to getting hosted by a family in a small earth-made village in the middle of nowhere in India . Everything opened my perception. Watching people dying in the streets made me understand how lucky I am to have a roof above my head and food on my table everyday, as well as experiencing a luxury lifestyle opened my mind towards a life of abundance, beauty and serenity. Wealth is a perfect tool to make a difference in the world.
Traveling makes you a Citizen of the World and that to me is one of the most beautiful and powerful outfits to dress up in. People with style exude so much wisdom and culture that they become intriguing and fascinating.
When I travel I love to fill up my suitcase with traditional costumes, jewelry, pieces of furniture, books and one-of-a-kind findings from all over the world. I love creating corners in my home that remind me of the trips I’ve done and the people I’ve met.
HOW DO YOU DO IT?
By now you might be asking yourself: “Ok, I got this but now, how do I put into practice these ideas and create a personal style that can reflect all of that and build my way to wealth?” . That’s an excellent question and I invite you to be a little patient. In my next article I will teach you how to create a wardrobe to dress for success.
I strongly believe that you have to find your style within before you can wear it out. Confidence is the best outfit you will ever wear and to master it you first have to be solidly grounded in your Being.
